Digital Marketing Pricing for the Construction Industry

Typically, one of the first questions anyone has when researching a product or service to buy..."how much does it cost?"

On this page, we've outlined what you can expect to spend to put together a comprehensive digital marketing program.

As with a lot of services you purchase, the quick answer is "it depends".  However, below, you'll find some ranges of investment as well as what to expect for those investment levels.

Breaking Down the Components

In today's digital environment, you've got a few different components you need to put in place to execute an effective digital marketing campaign.  Below, we break down the three main components of Technology, Services and Ad Spend.

Tools/Technology

Just like a builder needs his tools to build or remodel a home, a marketer needs his too.  Without the proper tools, your efforts will take a lot longer and you won't be able to maximize your results.  In addition to having the right tools, you also need tools that talk to each other.  Just like having a screw and a screwdriver, if you don't have the right screwdriver for the screw, it will be tough to execute.  So what types of tools are you going to need?

  • Content Management System (CMS)
  • Blogging Platform
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tools
  • Social Media Monitoring and Publishing Tools
  • Email Marketing Tool
  • Landing Page Tool
  • Analytics Tool
  • CRM

You can expect to pay $550/month on the low end to get started with all of these tools.  On the higher end, depending on how much automation, how many team members, and advanced features, you can find yourself investing $1,000+/month.  Our company, Builder Funnel, uses these same tools to grow our business and we spend $1,000/month.

The benefit to having this technology is that it is all tied together so that we can actually track real results.  What's working, what's not.  If you can't answer these questions, you'll never be able to move ahead and scale your business.

Services

If you're looking for a comprehensive campaign, our services start at $3,000/month.  A typical client of ours is spending anywhere from $3,000/month to $10,000/month.  The spend is all dependent on your specific goals and objectives which will in turn, change out the activities we build into our customized plans.

All of our comprehensive plans include:

  • Traffic Driving Activities (content, SEO, social media, PPC)
  • Lead Conversion Activities (premium content, landing pages, pop-ups, calls to action)
  • Lead Nurturing Activities (email marketing)
  • Analytics and Reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual reports -- what gets measured, improves)

Our company Builder Funnel does all of these activities for ourselves, and we invest about $20,000/month in our own services.  We practice what we preach, and these are the same activities that took us from an unknown company in Colorado Springs to a nationally known company that serves clients across the United States and Canada.

Ad Spend

Today, you can spend money in a lot of different places, but two of the most effective and profitable channels are Google and Facebook.  This would be Google AdWords on Google and Facebook Boosts and Facebook Advertising on Facebook.  Both channels also allow for re-targeting which means you can display ads to people that have been to your website or visited a specific page.

You can get away without spending money on ads today, but note that you'll be playing the longer game.  There's nothing wrong with that.  However, in today's environment, it's a good idea to at least be spending $50-$100 to boost posts on Facebook at a minimum.  On the high end, you can spend thousands or tens of thousands per month on Google and Facebook.  This one really varies because it depends on your company size and goals.

However, a typical builder or remodeler doing $2.5M - $5M can expect to spend anywhere from $500/month to $5,000/month.  Companies over $5M can expect to spend anywhere from $3,000 - $10,000+/month.

If you're under $2.5M, you'll want to focus on one channel (Google OR Facebook, not both) and most likely spend a few hundred dollars/month.  It will be tougher to find companies to help because management fees can often double your spend.  Ex. You have a $350/month budget for ads.  You also need to allocate about $400 - $800/month to manage those campaigns.  At this level of spend, you might be better off using a freelancer or self-implementing.

Our company Builder Funnel spends ads for itself as well, and we spend between $15,000-$20,000/month, primarily on Google.

Summary

All in, on the low end, you can expend to spend about $4,000/month for technology, services and ad spend.  On the higher end, you'll be looking at about $15,000+/month for technology, services and ad spend.  Our average remodeling and custom home clients spend about $5K to $7K all in per month on digital marketing services, ads and technology.

These ranges should help give you a sense of whether we might be a good fit to work together.

Our typical remodeling clients are doing $2M - $20M in sales, and our typical builder clients are doing $5M - $75M in sales.
