Contractor Advertising
Advertising is a key component in any well-rounded inbound marketing strategy. Contractors can take advantage of many different advertising means from Google AdWords to Facebook Ads!

What Are the Basics of Contractor Advertising?

Advertising and marketing are closely related, but they are not the same. If we think of marketing like a pie, advertising is a slice that helps with your overall efforts of generating website traffic and new leads for your contracting business. In most cases, we are referring to billboards, magazine ads, Facebook ads, Google AdWords, and similar tactics when we reference advertising.

So how does advertising play a role for contrators? To start, advertising allows plumbers, electricians, remodelers, builders, and all manner of contractors to use ad spend to in turn generate results for their businesses. For example, you might pay $100 for ads in the Google Search Engine. Those ads would generate a certain number of visits to your website and subsequently a certain number of leads.

These are the basics, but there is so much more we need to know about contractor advertising to make sure we are getting the best results for our budget.

Contractor Advertising Plan

The Best Contractor Advertising Plan

Builder Funnel has helped contractors all over the United States and Canada use inbound marketing to achieve amazing results for their comapnies. From ranking on the first page of Google to getting the most leads possible for advertising campaigns, we've been around the block when it comes to advertising for contractors. Here's our take on creating an effective advertising plan for your company.

1. Don't Only Do Advertising

It might be easy to create an advertising budget, hire a company, have them run ads, and call it a day. But that method will not produce even near the best results. Advertising has multiple components. For example, a single Google ad needs a landing page that converts visitors into leads. The landing page might offer something like an ebook, checklist, or consultation. Crafting these components might fall under inbound marketing. On the other hand, you will need to choose keywords to target with your ads. Keyword research falls under SEO (Search Engine Optimization). These are just a few examples of why advertising isn't as simple as it may seem.

But having a comprehensive marketing strategy will make sure all the additional components are in place so you get the best results with your ad campaigns.

2. Identify Clear Goals

What do you want to get from your ads? Do you want to drive more traffic to your website? Do you just want to generate leads? Maybe you want to drive phone calls to your business or help people find you in Google Maps. On the other hand, your main goal may be to generate awareness for your business and become the business where everyone in your area knows your name. No matter what your goals are, they should be clearly defined before you begin advertising.

3. Know the Platforms to Advertise On

From Google to Houzz and Facebook to Yelp, there are many ways local contractors can advertise their companies online. That's not even to mention traditional advertising methods such as billboards, magazine ads, newspaper ads, radio, and others. Here's a list of just a few of the different platforms you can use to advertise as a general contractor.

  • Home Remodeling Contractor AdvertisingGoogle
  • Yelp
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Angie's List
  • Home Advisor
  • Houzz
  • Yellow Pages

Although there are certainly more places to advertise, this is a good place to start. We recommend starting with Google AdWords and Facebook advertising. Then you can see if any of the other options would make sense for your business!
